Exploring the Benefits of Organic Goat Milk Formula

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

Before I became a mom I swore I would never give my baby formula-- ever! But, how many of us know that EVERYTHING changes once we become moms. We really have no choice but to throw out every single expectation we ever had about motherhood. Although I chose to breastfeed, I knew that I needed to have formula on hand - just in case! And can I tell you that these "just in case" moments came more frequently than expected. For example, having to leave our baby with my in laws because we had a wedding to attend, or giving a bottle before bed so I'd know how many ounces she'd actually drank or even a bottle for the middle-of-the-night feedings so I could get an extra 2 hours of sleep while my husband took the 2am shift.

Breastfeeding is the most recommended option for newborns, but not all mothers are able or choose to breastfeed. In these cases, formula is often the go-to alternative. However, I have to emphasize that not all formula is created equal. In this blog post, I share why I chose to the Holle Organic Goat Milk and the importance of using this type of formula if choosing to give formula instead of breastfeeding.

What is Organic Goat Milk Formula?

Organic goat milk formula is made from milk from organic, free-range goats that are not treated with antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic goat milk formula is often considered a better alternative to cow's milk formula due to the similarities in the composition of goat's milk and breast milk.

Why is Organic Goat Milk Formula Important for Newborns?

  1. Easier to digest: Goat's milk is easier for newborns to digest due to its unique protein and fat structure, making it a good alternative for infants with sensitive digestive systems.

  2. Higher nutrient absorption: Goat's milk contains more natural nutrients than cow's milk, including higher levels of calcium, magnesium, and vitamin A, making it a good source of nutrition for newborns.

  3. Reduced risk of allergies: Goat's milk contains less lactose and A1 casein, which can cause digestive issues and allergies in some newborns. This makes goat's milk formula a good alternative for infants with lactose intolerance or cow's milk protein allergy.

  4. Improved immune system: Goat's milk contains high levels of nucleotides and oligosaccharides, which can support the development of a newborn's immune system.

Choosing the Right Organic Goat Milk Formula

When choosing an organic goat milk formula for your newborn, it is important to look for products that are certified organic by a reputable organization. Additionally, it is important to choose a formula that is appropriate for your baby's age and needs.

I chose the Holle Organic Goat Milk because research suggests that goat's milk is more easily digestible for infants than cow's milk. Also, the Holle Stage 1 Infant Goat Milk Formula provides a complete source of essential vitamins and minerals from birth to six months, either on its own or as a supplement to breast milk. It can also help relieve constipation, cramps, and gassiness, using only whole organic goat's milk.

This Holle formula is free of soy, corn syrup, and glucose syrup, as well as being gluten-free, GMO-free, and sugar-free, with no prebiotic or probiotic additives. It contains organic maltodextrin starch and organic lactose, similar to the proteins naturally found in mother's breast milk, and is rich in essential nutrients like iron, calcium, zinc, vitamins A, B12, C, and D.

Additionally, Holle is recognized as one of the world's leading organic baby formula manufacturers and has been using natural ingredients in sustainable manufacturing practices since the 1930s. Holle Goat Stage 1 contains no synthetic additives, artificial nutrients, preservatives, colors, or flavorings. It is produced and packaged in Germany, adhering to strict European Union organic standards, which are more stringent than those in the United States.

In conclusion, while breastfeeding is the preferred option for newborns, organic goat milk formula can be a good alternative for mothers who are unable or choose not to breastfeed. By choosing organic goat milk formula, you can provide your newborn with a source of nutrition that is easier to digest, higher in natural nutrients, and less likely to cause allergies. When choosing an organic goat milk formula, be sure to look for products that are certified organic and appropriate for your baby's age and needs.
